Building a Low-Carbon Future: The Need for Collective Action
Learners will explore and understand the political concept of ‘the commons’, how this concept applies to climate change, and why greenhouse gas emissions are a ‘tragedy of the commons’. Learners will be able to apply this knowledge to explore the concept of Climate Justice at a high level.
Thawing Tundra
Permafrost, found in the tundra, is a layer of soil that is usually “permanently” frozen. What happens when permafrost is not so “perma” anymore? As global temperatures rise, the Arctic is experiencing warmer temperatures leading to the thawing of permafrost. What impact does this thaw have on climate change? In this backgrounder, learners will learn about the tundra biome and permafrost, and find out more about the consequences of a thawing tundra.
Wildfires
What do you think of when it comes to summer break? Sleeping in, a new job or summer camp, and... smoky skies? With an increase in the number and severity of wildfires in Canada, Canadians are experiencing the effects of fire season nation-wide. In this backgrounder, learners will find out more about the positive and negative effects of wildfires, and what is being done to help reduce destruction and encourage ecosystem health.
Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations with Six Nations of the Grand River
We are excited to have partnered with Indigenous Clean Energy, Six Nations of the Grand River, and Plug ‘N Drive to explore electric vehicles and the level three charging station being installed in the Six Nations of the Grand River Community.
