FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
GENERAL
What is GreenLearning?
GreenLearning is a non-profit organization committed to providing free education programs across Canada. We primarily focus on energy, climate change and green economy education, but have offerings in social studies, arts and Indigenous knowledge. In order to engage and empower students to create positive change, we include both hands-on and critical thinking activities to equip educators with the educational tools they need to help students understand complex environmental issues.
How does GreenLearning Work?
It’s easy! The short answer is that all our content is free—but in order to access most of our programming and resources, you’ll need to sign up for a free account. Once you’re signed up, browse through our programs and resources; everything is curriculum-connected and focuses on a handful of themes and subjects that have been vetted by teacher consultants.
How long have you been making programming?
GreenLearning has been offering education programs for almost 20 years. GreenLearning originated as an education program of the Pembina Institute. The Pembina Institute was established in 1985 and was one of the first organizations to create climate change and renewable energy education in Canada. GreenLearning was created as part of the Pembina Institute in the early 2000s and became its own entity in 2010 receiving charitable status in 2012. Since then, we’ve continued to expand our program offerings to include social studies, Indigenous teachings and knowledge-sharing, and the arts. All our programming is curriculum-connected and vetted by educators—our primary goal is to make energy, climate change and green economy education as accessible and as easy as possible to incorporate into classroom learning!
Where are you located?
Our team works remotely across the settler-colonial state of Canada. We currently have team members in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia—though our mailing address is in Drayton Valley, AB!
Can I easily incorporate your programs into my mandated curriculum?
Yes! All of our programs are curriculum-connected. Though all programs list curriculum connections in Ontario and Alberta, we’re in the process of adding British Columbia with the rest of Canada to follow.
Do I have to be a teacher to use your content?
Absolutely not! We encourage all educators (and parents!) to use our workshops, resources, programs and participate in our challenges.
Do you offer professional development?
We do! Keep an eye on our events page, sign up for our newsletter or follow us (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook Group) for information on our PD opportunities.
Do you offer workshops?
Yes! As above, keep an eye on our events page, sign up for our newsletter or follow us (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook Group) for information on our next workshop.
Will you come to my classroom?
Unfortunately, GreenLearning doesn’t currently offer in person support. However, we’re happy to support you in implementing resources and challenges into your classroom—and depending on capacity and funding, we may be able to provide you with a free virtual workshop! We have worked with numerous teachers, school boards and partners to deliver workshops. Check out our webinars and events page for a wide variety of both teacher and student facing workshops that you can view and use anytime!

DONATIONS
Why should I donate to GreenLearning?
We’ve got a long and proven track record within the environmental education industry in Canada for creating well-researched, engaging and empowering programs, challenges and resources for youth. Our programs range from kindergarten age to the senior year of high school, and reach across disciplines. They’re also curriculum-connected!
If you’re passionate about equipping Canadian youth with the tools to thrive during the climate emergency, please consider supporting our work!
What will my donation go towards?
It depends! As a non-profit totally reliant on funding, your donation may go directly towards the creation and maintenance of one of our programs, challenges or resources… or it might go towards operation costs and supporting our fantastic team. The number of teachers and students we reach is growing each year, so rest assured that you’re directly furthering environmental education in Canada!
Can I donate if I live outside Canada?
